Atlas Mountains
Travel to the Toubkal Massif from Marrakech on a full-day tour of the Atlas Mountains. Visit a national park with rugged peaks and deep valleys. As you traverse the park, enjoy spectacular views of the highest peaks of the Atlas Mountains. At the small village of Imlil, you leave the highway and arrive at the starting point from where you will explore the Toubkal area. You will hike for about 20 minutes in this beautiful natural environment, stopping for lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Toubkal. At over 4,000 meters, the Massif is the highest mountain in the Atlas Mountains and one of the highest peaks in Africa.
Marrakech is a unique city that has a lot to offer
Here, you will find a vibe of luxury jet set exclusivity, next to the mysterious old 1001 nights locations. At the heart of the city, you will find the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square, near the oldest and most known mosque, the Khoutoubia Mosque. Take a stroll through the close surroundings to find several malls, swimming pools, golf clubs, restaurants, luxury hotels and more. 10 minutes from the old city center is L’Hivernage – the new part of Marrakech filled with casinos, clubs, and restaurants. Of course, what you’ve read so far is only a mere fraction of everything that the wonderful city of Marrakech has to offer.
Transport
The people of Marrakech take driving to the next level. Traffic is not like anywhere else in the world. We therefore advise our guests to use a small taxi (max. 3 people) for trips inside the city. If you want to travel outside of the city, you had best take a bigger taxi (max. 6 people). For the daredevils, you can, of course, also rent your own car, a mini-van or something bigger. We can arrange your transport for any purposes you may wish, optionally including a private driver.
Housing
Marrakech is the city of Riads – big, often luxury houses with separate rooms or suites, mostly hidden behind beautifully decorated doors that open to the old streets. They can serve like a small hotel, however, the bigger ones have up to 18 rooms or more. One could say they breathe more culture, hospitality, and atmosphere than most hotels. Hotels can be found all over the world, but a true Riad is very much Moroccan and therefore feels unique.
Things to see & do
Jemaa el-Fnaa is the famous big square that houses an old market and lots of places to shop, drink, and eat. A must-see! The square is next to the Khoutoubia Mosque, which is the oldest and most famous mosque in Marrakech, with a very rich history. The square’s area can be a little overwhelming because of the crowd and the many merchants trying to sell you something, but we ourselves always like to get lost in the many old vintage streets. If you wish, we can provide a professional guide to take you on a tour of the area.
The old Koran school Ben Youssef is one of the most famous and beautiful museums in the city. We recommend combining a visit to the museum with a stroll around the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, and a coffee or lunch at Nomad or Café des Epices.
The Yves Saint Laurent Jardin – the famous garden of YSL – is a true must-see. Have a drink or a proper meal inside if you are looking for a calmer atmosphere, or outside in the garden that is located near hip stores and cafés. Recently, a YSL museum was opened next door, with exclusive designs, footage, paintings, and more. The Jardin is located on a 10/15 minutes’ drive from the Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
Chez Ali is like a Moroccan Disneyland, and offers all kinds of Moroccan folklore music, while serving drinks or food in the traditional Moroccan way. At night they offer a show with horses, camels, old-school horsemen with rifles, belly dancers, and fireworks. Chez Ali is about 15 to 20 minutes outside of the city center, and you pay about 150 MAD for a drink and the show. Of course, a little more if you want to have dinner, but in all honesty, we can’t recommend the food.
A Hammam
A hammam is a traditional Moroccan bathing house. Generally speaking, you can get a full body treatment and massage for about 450/550 MAD (45-55 euro). Les Bains de l’Alhambra is a personal favorite, but there are a lot of other great ones too. Trust us, you’ll feel reborn.
30 minutes outside of Marrakech you will find a wonderful lake named Lala Takerkoust. If swimming in lakes isn’t for you, Jet Atlas is a pool on top of a little hill with an infinity pool that looks out over the lake.
Do visit the Palmeraie garden if you are looking for the most beautiful sunsets in Marrakech. Get there on time to do a little tour on camels or quads. The tour comes with a true Moroccan Sahara outfit. Perfect for great pictures.
The Agafay desert may not be the Sahara but it’s absolutely worth a visit, nonetheless. We can highly recommend camping out for a night. The White Camel, Scarabeo Camp, and Terre des Etoiles are three of the best tent camps in this beautiful area, offering a beautiful and unique experience. Extend the experience with camel rides, quad tours, or even a hot air balloon ride over Marrakech.
Nightlife
We can help you find the best clubs to your taste. This is an overview of the most known spots:
Pools
Hip pools with (loud) music are:
Waky Marrakech is a wakeboard park 10 minutes from the city center. You pay about 300 MAD for an hour (400 for 2 hours), which will get you all the equipment you need and an instructor to teach you how to wakeboard. They also have a bar and kitchen with fast food, wraps, and healthy juices. If you don’t feel very adventurous, try the pool and restaurant with a view on the park, to watch others do tricks on the water.
A more quiet and relaxing pool can be found in the Beldi Country Club, or try the pools of the royal hotels Mamounia, Mansour, Mandarin Oriental. You may also want to try a pool in one of the many palaces.
Tour the Ourika Valley
Tour the Ourika Valley with no less than seven waterfalls, an hour’s drive from Marrakech. After a climb by car, you will be rewarded with the most beautiful views.
Ouzoud Waterfall
Two hours from Marrakech, you will find the beautiful Ouzoud waterfall. Think of it as the Moroccan Niagara Falls.
Oukaïmeden (Winter)
In the winter (November to March), there is an actual chance of snow in the mountains of Oukaïmeden, while it’s still nice and warm in Marrakech. It gets even better, as there are several places where you can ski or snowboard. Rental shops are available and ski lifts can take you up to 3500 meters. Only a 1-hour drive from Marrakech.
Auberge Du Sud
Auberge Du Sud is a personal favorite in the Sahara. Think 8-10 hours of beautiful roads across mountains, through valleys, and old villages. Along the way, do visit the famous cities Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou. A true bucket list experience. Mind you, to get the full experience, you will need at least three days.
Taghazout & Agadir
On 3.5 hours from Marrakech, you will find Taghazout – a true surfers’ paradise. Some of our favorite places are Paradise Valley, the beautiful boulevard, and the Marina of Agadir. Essaouira is a very nice fisher’s village, located 2.5 hours from Marrakech. The places are usually awash with kite surfers and hippies, living the good life.
